Share Problems And Ask For Help – I was having a meeting with one of my mentors a few months ago about some of my challenges and while we were outlining steps to take on solving some of those issues, he paused and asked if I had an idea why people don’t like to share their problems. He explained further saying, a lot of people are going through so much, some don’t even know where their next meal is coming from but they’d rather starve than share or ask for help. He went on and on.
This article is part of a series I will be posting for a month in collaboration with my friend, Umar Abdullahi . We challenged each other to become better writers and will be posting our articles together once a week. Check out his latest blog post here
I just kept smiling while he explained because some of the things he said applied to me. I could be going through the worst and appear like the happiest person on earth. I don’t like sharing my problems because I hate to be a burden. I hate it absolutely. It takes me a lot of strength and power to share my challenges with anyone not because I’m proud or pompous but because I find it really hard to and always have to rehearse how to go about talking about these problems. I’m getting better at this now because, in the end, I’d be better for it.
So here are a few reasons why I think people don’t like to share their problems based on my experience and others
- They don’t want to be a burden
- Trust – they are not sure how trustworthy the person who they are sharing their problems with is
- The fear of not being a topic for discussion
- The fear of not being able to get help
- The fear of being an example on the pulpit

In the end, I have come to realize that a problem shared is a problem half solved so I have made up my mind to share as much as possible, who knows help my just be staring right in my face.
